The Art of Not-so-Subtle Barbs

I attended the Opening Ceremony of Concepts 2006 in PICT on Friday. There were two speakers for the occasion.

The first came to the podium and delivered an extremely boring oration on how today’s software professionals can be compared with the Vikings of a thousand years ago.

The second guy then rose and approached the podium. He started off thus, “Hello everyone! Can you guys hear me back there? If you’ll are still awake, that is!”

Ouch! Talk about hitting below the belt. For the record, his speech was no more interesting than its predecessor. If anything, it was worse.

In all fairness, the first guys speech was good (a rarity in all kinds of formal ceremonies). The time and place just wasn't right for the first guy to discuss his metaphors for the Indian software industry. Some very interesting points there though.

Boy Arnold, you sure are a funny one. Just checked out the link to Concepts 2006 and decided to browse the PICT website.

I find it amusing that a website trying to promote the University and its various achievements can forget to proof read its webpages - The spelling of the University of Illinois at Champaign is spelt incorrectly...may be you can convince the webmaster to correct it.

See you in a couple of months!

kenneth - hey! thanks man... looking foward to seeing u guys too..

geez, the spelling in this country isnt one of its quality features so i wudnt be surprised if those guys at PICT even cared... so long as people understood wht they were trying to say ...
